Marsilio Ficino was ordained into the priesthood in 1473, after having spent several years studying philosophy and theology. He was a prominent figure in the Italian Renaissance, and his work helped to spread the ideas of Neoplatonism throughout Europe. Ficino was also a gifted translator, and he translated many of the works of Plato and other ancient philosophers into Latin.
