William Schwenck Gilbert was an English dramatist, librettist, and poet, most famous for his comic opera collaborations with Arthur Sullivan. Gilbert also worked in education, teaching for several years at a school in Boulogne-sur-Mer. He wrote textbooks and a number of educational articles, and was also a frequent contributor to the periodical press.
