Martin Peters retired from professional football at the age of 31, with Sheffield United. Peters had played for Tottenham Hotspur for 12 seasons, during which he had helped the club win the 1961 League Cup, the 1962 FA Cup, the 1963 European Cup Winners' Cup, the 1966–67 FA Cup and the 1967–68 League Cup. He was also part of the England team that won the 1966 World Cup.
