Martin Rees was never a professor at King's College London. He was educated at the University of Cambridge and then held a variety of academic positions at Oxford University. He was appointed Astronomer Royal in 1979 and served in that role until 2005. In 2005, he was appointed Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, a position he held until 2012. He is now a professor at the University of Cambridge.
