Martinus J. G. Veltman was born on June 27, 1931. He is a Dutch theoretical physicist who, together with Gerard't Hooft, developed a method for calculating Feynman diagrams in gauge theories, which are used to describe the interactions of elementary particles. For this work, they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1999.
