James Francis Edward Stuart was known as "the Old Pretender". He was the son of James II of England and VII of Scotland. He was born in 1688, after his father had been deposed by the Glorious Revolution. James Francis Edward Stuart never ruled as king, but he was the Jacobite claimant to the throne of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
