Masahiro Tanaka was born in Itami, Japan. He is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). Tanaka was selected in the 2007 NPB Draft by the Golden Eagles, and made his professional debut in 2010. He was named the NPB Rookie of the Year in 2013.
