Answer
Aldus Manutius was an Italian printer, publisher, and scholar who lived in Venice in the 15th century. He is credited with being the first person to use italic type, which he commissioned in 1501. This typeface was a precursor to the modern italic typeface, and was used for printing books in Greek and Latin.
