Peter Maxwell Davies was a British composer, conductor and teacher. He was born in Salford, Lancashire, England, in 1934. Davies studied music at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he was a pupil of Alexander Goehr. He then went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where he was a pupil of Gordon Jacob.
