Quintilian was a Roman rhetorician who lived from 35 AD to 100 AD. He was active during the reigns of all four of the Julio-Claudian emperors: Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, and Claudius. Quintilian's work on rhetoric, Institutio Oratoria, was one of the most influential works on the subject in the ancient world.
