Herman Van Rompuy was a Belgian politician who served as Prime Minister of Belgium from 2008 to 2011. He was also President of the European Council from 2012 to 2014. Van Rompuy was born in Leuven, Belgium in 1947. He studied economics at the Catholic University of Leuven and the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating, he worked as an economist for the Belgian government.
