Ridgway's last held military post was Chief of Staff of the United States Army. He served in this role from 1953 to 1955, after serving as the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe from 1950 to 1953. He was a highly decorated soldier, having received the Medal of Honor for his actions during World War II.
