Matthias Corvinus was the King of Hungary and Croatia from 1458 to 1490. He was a member of the House of Hunyadi and was the son of János Hunyadi, who had been the regent of Hungary during the reign of Ladislaus V. Matthias Corvinus was a successful military commander and expanded the Hungarian kingdom to include parts of Austria, Bohemia, and Poland.
