Pacific Northwest Ballet is a ballet company based in Seattle, Washington. The company was founded in 1935 by the dancer and choreographer William Christensen. The company has a long history of staging the Nutcracker ballet, and in 1977 it commissioned the children's book author Maurice Sendak to design the sets and costumes for a production of the ballet.
