Maurice Yaméogo was a politician in Burkina Faso. He was the first president of Burkina Faso, serving from 1960 to 1966. He was a close ally of Félix Houphouët-Boigny, the president of Côte d'Ivoire. The two men worked together to promote regional cooperation and development. Yaméogo was overthrown in a military coup in 1966.
