Answer
The rebel leader, Carausius, was ousted by Maximian in 296. Carausius was a Roman military officer who had been appointed as the commander of the British fleet by the Roman emperor Diocletian. However, Carausius became increasingly dissatisfied with the Roman government and, in 286, he declared himself emperor of Britain and Gaul. Maximian led an army against Carausius and, in 296, he defeated the rebel leader and captured Britain.
