Born on July 31, 1527, Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor from 1564 until his death, was the eldest son of Ferdinand I and Anna of Bohemia and Hungary. He succeeded his father as Holy Roman Emperor after the death of his cousin, Emperor Charles V, in 1564.
