Maximinus Thrax (c. 180–238) was Roman emperor from 235 to 238. Born a peasant, he served in the Roman army and rose through the ranks, becoming a general. He became emperor after leading an army in revolt against Emperor Alexander Severus. Maximinus was a brutal and unpopular ruler, and he was eventually assassinated by his own soldiers.
