Maximus of Constantinople was a prominent Byzantine statesman, politician and consul of the 6th century. He is best known for his efforts in the Nika riots of 532, in which he played a crucial role in suppressing the uprising. As a reward, he was appointed consul and given the honorary title of "patrician". Maximus is also remembered as a patron of the arts and a benefactor of the Church.
