The first beef-flavour lawsuit against McDonald's was filed in the United States in 1993. The plaintiffs claimed that the company's hamburgers did not contain enough beef to be considered a "burger" and that they were therefore misleading consumers. The case was eventually settled out of court, but it helped to raise awareness of the issue of beef-flavour additives in fast food.
