Médard des Groseilliers was imprisoned in 1662 for illegal fur trading. He and his exploration partner, Pierre-Esprit Radisson, were accused of trading without a proper license from the French government. This event led them to seek support from the British, which eventually resulted in the formation of the Hudson's Bay Company.
