Medgar Wiley Evers was an American civil rights activist who was the field secretary for the Mississippi chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) from 1954 until his assassination in 1963. Evers was a leader in the civil rights movement in Mississippi, and was known for his work to register African Americans to vote.
