Answer
Mengistu Haile Mariam was a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary who led Ethiopia from 1974 to 1991. He attempted to modernize Ethiopia by introducing Marxist-Leninist-inspired policies, including nationalizing industry, collectivizing agriculture, and promoting literacy and education. However, his policies were met with resistance from both the Ethiopian people and the international community, and he was eventually overthrown in 1991.
