Born in 1952, Merrick Garland is an American jurist and the 86th and current Attorney General of the United States. He previously served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1997 to 2020. Garland was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Barack Obama in 2016, but his nomination was blocked by the Republican-controlled Senate.
