On 4 February 2022, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced that an election would be held on 5 October 2022. The announcement came after Frederiksen's Social Democratic Party lost its majority in the Folketing, the Danish parliament, in the 2021 general election. The election will be the third general election in Denmark in the past four years.
