Michael Wittmann served in the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH) during the Second World War. The LSSAH was one of the most elite divisions of the German Waffen-SS. Wittmann was a highly decorated tank commander who earned the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. He was killed in action in 1944.
