In 2007, Michel Mayor officially retired from the University of Geneva, where he had been a professor since 1971. He is an astrophysicist and astronomer who is best known for his discovery, along with Didier Queloz, of 51 Pegasi b, the first exoplanet to be found around a star like the Sun. Mayor and Queloz were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2019 for their work.
