Answer
Delibes became a member of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1975. He filled the seat vacated by Julián Marías, and took up his seat on 25 May of that year. His speech, titled simply El novelista, dealt with the novel as a genre and reflected on the relationship between reality and fiction. Delibes was later elected director of the Royal Spanish Academy, a position he held from 1975 to 1978.
