Kogălniceanu was the ideologue of the 1848 Moldavian revolution. He was a Romanian intellectual, politician, historian, linguist, and journalist. He was a major figure in the Moldavian Renaissance and is considered one of the founding fathers of modern Romania. Kogălniceanu was a supporter of the Union of Moldavia and Wallachia, and he was instrumental in the drafting of the 1848 Constitution of Moldavia.
