From 16 October 1952 onwards, Mikhail Suslov held the role of Full Member of the 19th Presidium within the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). This was a high-ranking position within the party, and Suslov was responsible for overseeing a number of important areas, including ideology and propaganda. He was also a close ally of Nikita Khrushchev, and helped to consolidate Khrushchev's power within the party.
