Minouche Shafik was born in Egypt. She is an Egyptian-British economist who has served as the Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) since September 2017. She was the first woman to hold this position. Shafik is a former Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has also worked as the Permanent Secretary of the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
