Mir Asadollah Madani was a member of the Muslim People’s Republic Party at the time of his death. The party was founded in 1975 and was a coalition of Muslim groups that opposed the Shah of Iran. The party was banned by the Shah in 1977 and its members were arrested and tortured. After the Iranian Revolution, the party was legalized and Madani became a member of the Majlis.
