In 1978, Mirosław Hermaszewski became the first and only Polish cosmonaut to go to space. As part of the Soviet Soyuz 30 mission, he spent just over eight days in space, conducting scientific experiments and earning a Hero of the Soviet Union honor for his successful flight.
