Answer
Mohamed Bouazizi self-immolated to protest against autocratic regimes. He was a Tunisian street vendor who set himself on fire in December 2010, after police confiscated his fruit cart and slapped him in front of his customers. His death sparked protests that led to the overthrow of Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, and inspired the Arab Spring uprisings across the Middle East and North Africa.
