Mohammad Mosaddegh, the first prime minister of Iran, died on March 5, 1967. He was a leading figure in the Iranian nationalist movement and a strong advocate for democracy and secularism. He was overthrown in a coup d'état in 1953, and spent the rest of his life in exile.
