Mohammed V was born in 1909, the son of Sultan Moulay Youssef. He became Sultan of Morocco in 1927 and reigned until his exile in 1953. He was a key figure in the Moroccan independence movement and led the country to independence from France in 1956. Mohammed V is considered one of the most important figures in Moroccan history and is revered as the "Father of the Nation."
