Mullah Omar was a prominent figure in the Afghan Taliban movement. He founded the Taliban in 1994, and led the group until his death in 2013. Under Omar's leadership, the Taliban took control of most of Afghanistan, and imposed a strict interpretation of Islamic law. After the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, Omar fled to Pakistan, where he remained until his death.
