Fakhrizadeh received his PhD in physics from the University of Isfahan in 1982. He then went on to work at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), where he was involved in the development of Iran's nuclear program. He was also a member of the Iranian National Academy of Sciences. Fakhrizadeh was assassinated in 2020 in a targeted attack by Israeli forces.
