Manuel Noriega suppressed Giroldi's coup attempt. Giroldi was an officer in the Panamanian Defense Forces who attempted to overthrow General Manuel Noriega on October 3, 1989. Noriega, who was in the United States at the time, was able to return to Panama and defeat the coup attempt. Giroldi was executed along with several of his supporters.
