Möngke Khan was the fifth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire from 1251 to 1259. He was the third son of Tolui, the eldest son of Genghis Khan. He was a capable military leader who conquered much of Central Asia and China during his reign. He was also a patron of the arts and literature.
