Mongkut was the fourth monarch of Siam. He ruled from 1851 to 1868. He was a very progressive king and made many reforms to the country. He opened Siam up to trade with the West and abolished slavery. He also established a modern education system and a new legal code. Mongkut was a very popular king and is considered one of the greatest monarchs in Siamese history.
