Mordechai Vanunu's trail was held behind closed doors because it was believed that there was a great deal of sensitive information about the Israeli nuclear program that was at risk of being disclosed if the trial were to be held in public. As a result, the government decided to hold the trial in secret, with only a select group of people being allowed to attend.
