Moshe Sharett served as Israel's Prime Minister from 1954 to 1955. He was a member of the Mapai Party and had previously served as Foreign Minister from 1949 to 1954. Sharett was a moderate who supported a policy of peaceful coexistence with the Arab states. However, he was unable to prevent the outbreak of the Suez Crisis in 1956.
