Murad V was the 32nd Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. He ascended to the throne on 30 May 1876, after his uncle, Abdulaziz, was deposed by the Young Turks. Murad V was a mentally ill man, and his reign was marked by instability and violence. He was deposed on 10 August 1876, and his brother, Abdul Hamid II, succeeded him.
