Rothbard split up with Charles Koch in 1982 before establishing the Mises Institute. Koch had provided most of the financial support for Rothbard's research and publications, but the two men had a falling out over the direction of the libertarian movement. Koch wanted to focus on electoral politics, while Rothbard believed that the movement should focus on education and activism.
