Clementi was born in Rome, Italy, in 1752. His father was a musician and teacher, and Clementi received his early musical training from him. He was a child prodigy, and by the age of 12 he was already composing and performing on the piano. In 1766, Clementi's father sent him to London to study with the famous harpsichordist and composer John Christian Bach.
