Answer
The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) was formed in 1948 as a coalition of independent wrestling promoters in the United States. In the early years, the NWA recognized only one singular world champion, who was recognized as the top wrestler in the world by all of the member promotions. This system lasted until 1963, when the NWA began to recognize multiple world champions.
