In the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Athletics in Bydgoszcz, Poland, Chopra won the javelin throw with a throw of 86.48 metres, setting a new world U20 record. The previous record had been held by Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, who threw 84.58 metres in 2012.
