Nicholas Murray Butler was a prominent American educator, diplomat, and author who served as the president of Columbia University from 1902 to 1945. He was also the founding president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the first president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Despite his many accomplishments, Butler never served as President of the United States.
