Nicholas Murray Butler was born on April 27, 1862 in New York City. He was an American philosopher, educator, and diplomat. He was the president of Columbia University from 1901 to 1945, and the first president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace from 1911 to 1945. He was also a Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 1931.
